The benefits of paper pallets can lighten one’s load of logistical problems, according to Eltete Engineering, a company with over 30 years of experience that specializes in providing turnkey corrugated pallet manufacturing systems internationally, right where customers need them. Whether wood, presswood, plastic, metal or paper, each pallet material can offer the best fit for a particular application. So what are the benefits of paper or corrugated cardboard pallets?
- Lighter weight than most alternatives
- New and clean every time
- Pallet footprint can be easily customized to fit the unit load or container dimensions
- Low profile design can reduce cube utilization
- Heat treatment of pallets is not required
- no nails or wood splinters
- no fire retardants
- no mold issues
- After being emptied, paper pallets can be readily baled along with other old corrugated cardboard packaging
One example of Eltete’s ability to deliver automatic paper pallet manufacturing on an industrial scale is a new installation in Nagoya, Japan. According to Marko Virtanen, Eltete’s sales director of technology, production capacity will be about three million units annually. They will mainly be utilized for export.
With its own factories running in 15 countries and a sales network reaching in excess of 60 nations, Virtanen says that the company has shown that its technology for manufacturing paper pallets is “the most efficient and economical in the world.” The company’s paper pallet network consists of both in-house operations as well as other production lines sold to other entities. Eltete’s key interest is supplying its Paper Roll-to-Paper Pallet and automatic paper pallet assembly (APPA) technology to local companies worldwide, including taking full responsibility for the delivery of production lines.
Eltete cites other advantages, including its comprehensive service network, raw material sourcing, as well as marketing and sales assistance. Virtanen points out that often its technicians do not need to physically attend to provide service. They can optimize the process and fix many minor problems remotely.
Single Operator System
The newest generation of Paper Roll-to-Paper Pallet and APPA technology is a new single operator system. Virtanen notes that the one-person factory is quite compact and can fit into a small area. Regardless of the size of the system, he stresses that paper pallets can be made locally, thus eliminating the inbound freight costs associated with other pallets.

The paper pallets can be combined with other recyclable transport packaging material developed by Eltete.
“Using our technology it’s possible to produce up to ten pallets per minute, Virtanen comments, “which significantly lowers the price per unit.” That combination of automation and production capacity make it attractive to customers.
“In cases where the whole production is integrated into the factory, like in Japan, the only raw materials needed are paper rolls and glue,” Virtanen concludes.
